The Big Picture: Reducing Carbon by taking Public Transit (or Bicycling)

We all know that driving our private automobiles isn’t exactly the “greenest” past time, but often we end up getting behind the wheel anyways.

Wouldn’t it be cool if we were rewarded for the carbon emissions that we save by riding public transit, walking, or bicycling? Recently I logged on to the website of BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) to check to train schedule. They have recently added a really cool feature that calculates how many pounds of carbon dioxide you save by riding the train instead of driving. On my last trip, I saved a whopping 13.7 pounds of CO2 from entering the atmosphere!
